Canola fields in York, WA, Western Australia, where to walk through canola, travel WA, insta spots

Where to find golden canola fields in WA (2024)

During August and September, as the winter rains give way to warmer days, canola crops start bursting into bloom in WA. So where is the best place to find canola flowers?

The best place to see canola fields is in the Avon Valley, which is around an hour’s drive from Perth. We know it’s pretty tempting to pull over and take a sprint through the sprawling ocean of yellow, but cool your jets until you finish reading.

Canola may look pretty as a picture, but it’s a crop (no different to wheat or barley) used to make oil. What this means is, it’s somebody’s livelihood. And twirling in it in a sundress and straw hat means you’re going to destroy it and piss a hardworking farmer off in the process.

But you CAN get your insta moment running through a canola field by visiting Peteet Park, a 100-acre property that lets you run through canola to your heart’s content for a small admission fee (added bonus: they also grow sunflowers, sell farm fresh eggs and handcrafted soap AND breed miniature rare animals, cuuuuuuute).

Peteet Park is located at 1625 Qualen West Road, Gilgering. Give owners Kevin and Pamela a buzz or check out their website to find out when the canola starts blooming and how long it will stick around for.
